Upcoming Card Set Releases in 2022

Looking forward to new sets is one of the most fun and anticipation-inducing aspects of being a trading card collector. While the post-pandemic world left our favorite hobby with delays, cancellations, and frustration, it appears things could soon be back in order. With all that said, what better time than now to look ahead to some exciting upcoming sets in the hobby of card collecting?

Panini Mosaic Basketball Sets

Every year, Panini Mosaic is a sought-after set, especially in the basketball card community. This year looks to be on even more so, with not only a stellar rookie class across the board; but a totally revamped design and approach to the set.

In past years, Mosaic had a very cut-and-paste design, with the trademark shapes and chrome look and each player plastered over it. It’s been that way for years, up until they announced this year’s product, featuring a more colorful design with a pop of depth in the live shot.

It comes as a much-needed revitalization of a fan favorite set that had been lacking in visual appeal in the last couple of releases. The popular inserts in Mosaic finally get a new look, too.

Last year, I remembered looking at them and thinking, “I can’t tell what is going on with these cards.” Everything looked messy, and the holo print didn’t help with the eyesore. Luckily the Stained Glass, Straight Fire, and Overdrive designs come in with extremely clean and easy-to-digest artwork.

Keep your eyes peeled this fall as Panini Mosaic is expected to release on October 5th.

NFL Sports Card Sets

As another year in the NFL starts, last year's card sets are winding down. Gold Standard is a favorite football card set for collectors with flashy design, a last chance of RPAs, and big-name Hall Of Fame autographs. With the crop of talented rookie quarterbacks as well, Gold Standard is a sure way to deliver for the end of the 21-22 cycle.

Looking at the sell sheet, the big chase will almost certainly be the Opulence Rookie inserts, which in the past have held long-term value for collectors. While not as pricey as card sets like National Treasures, Immaculate and Flawless, Gold Standard comes in with a much more wallet-friendly price.

Look forward to Gold Standard dropping on September 21st.

Baseball Trading Card Sets

Last on our list is one of the biggest baseball sets of the year, both in size and anticipation, Topps Bowman Chrome. Every year, Baseball collectors look forward to Bowman Chrome to collect “First Bowmans” as well as true rookies of the biggest to make it into the MLB.

This year’s Bowman Chrome set has the usual plethora of parallels, ranging from #499 to the beloved 1/1 Superfractor. The names that will have everyone on the look are what really keep fans coming back. Wander Franco autos have been previewed on the sell sheet as he’s been lighting the league on fire. You would have to imagine Bobby Witt Jr. will also be on the hook for rookie autos as well.

On the “First Bowman” side, the only name to have made an appearance this early is Cristhian Vaquero for the Washington Nationals. Bowman Chrome has an expected release date of November 30th.

All in all, it's shaping up to be a good year for sports card sets, and we're looking forward to seeing how the end of 2022 plays out. Who knows, maybe you'll be the one to snag one of these new sought-after sports cards.
